ECD and EPD: the difference for a therapy practice

The two abbreviations look alike, but they belong to different fields of work. The difference lies in who keeps the record and which care it was made for. Anyone starting a practice or choosing software will come across both terms.

EPD

EPD stands for electronic patient record. That term belongs to medical care and to the record of a patient in that setting.

ECD

ECD stands for electronic client record. In a therapy practice that is the client’s file, with the support, the appointments and the documents you keep.

The words differ because the way of working differs. A therapist supports a client, and the record follows that process.

QiC

QiC uses the client record as part of practice software. QiC is not an EPD and does not claim that role.

What you get is a practice environment with a record, a calendar, questionnaires and forms for psychosocial and naturopathic therapists.
